MAI3D: Bringing Generative AI for 3D into Mechanical Design

BrightClue is proud to join forces with Valeo, Dessia Technologies, and Arts et Métiers ParisTech (ENSAM) in the ambitious MAI3D project, supported by the France 2030 program and Bpifrance.

A visionary project to transform mechanical design


MAI3D aims to industrialize Generative AI for 3D mechanical design, with two complementary applications at its core:

  • AI assistants for engineers – digital copilots designed to recall design rules, answer technical questions, and suggest design options. These assistants drastically reduce design iterations and help secure early design decisions.

  • A 3D Generative AI system – capable of automatically redesigning a part within the same family while integrating key industrial constraints (packaging, performance, standards, materials, manufacturing processes). The result: CAD models ready for engineering and production.


Complementary expertise driving innovation


Each partner brings unique expertise to the project:

  • Valeo (project leader) provides design rules, CAD data, and validates the solutions in an industrial environment.

  • Dessia Technologies contributes its strong expertise in engineering process digitalization and automation.

  • BrightClue develops advanced AI models that can interpret technical data and automatically recognize 3D shapes, unlocking the value of engineering knowledge hidden in technical databases.

  • ENSAM (PIMM Lab – CNRS UMR 8006) designs frugal AI models, low data and low compute, based on encoder/decoder architectures to parameterize geometries and generate compliant design variants.


Generative AI for 3D: Beyond the automotive industry


While the project draws on Valeo’s automotive experience, MAI3D extends far beyond that field.

It addresses all industries producing physical products, helping them design better, faster, and with greater confidence thanks to AI.
